Need to Transfer a Firearm?

Here’s the step-by-step process to make that happen.
Long Gun, Rifle or Shotgun
Registration Protocol
  1. You purchase the firearm.
  2. You fill out the form below.
  3. We contact your seller, send them a copy of our FFL, and notify you that we’ve contacted your seller.
  4. We notify you when the firearm arrives.
  5. You make an appointment to come to our office.
  6. You complete an ATF Form 4473 during your appointment.
  7. We contact the FBI NICS to finalize the transfer.
  8. You come to your appointment and pick up your firearm!
Handgun
Registration Protocol
  1. You purchase the firearm from another retailer.
  2. You fill out the form below.
  3. We contact your seller, send them a copy of our FFL, and notify you that we contacted your seller.
  4. We notify you when the firearm arrives.
  5. You make an appointment to come to our office.
  6. You go to the Maryland State Police website, log into MSP Portal and complete a 77R.
  7. You forward us the email you receive from the MSP that contains the application and pin number. (Send to ffl@guntry.com.)
  8. Following your first appointment, your second appointment will be scheduled at least eight days later.
  9. You complete an ATF Form 4473 during your appointment.
  10. We contact the FBI NICS to finalize the transfer.
  11. You take home your firearm!

Everything you need to know

  • The fee for transferring a firearm is $50.  GUNTRY Standard Membership holders pay $45 and GUNTRY Law Enforcement/Military/Fire Membership holders pay $40.
  • The fee for transferring a handgun includes an additional $10 application fee, as required by Maryland State Police. GUNTRY Standard Membership holders and GUNTRY Law Enforcement/Military/Fire Membership will also be required to pay the additional $10 application fee.
  • Any firearms returned to the seller are subject to shipping fees, as well as the GUNTRY transfer fee.
  • Law enforcement and retired veterans do not need a state-issued Handgun Qualification License (HQL).
