Need to Transfer a Firearm?

Here’s the step-by-step process to make that happen.
Transferring a long gun, rifle or shotgun
is easy and simple! Just follow these steps...
  1. 1. Purchase the firearm from the internet source or out-of-state seller.
  2. 2. After you have made the purchase, fill out the form below and submit.
  • We will contact your seller and send them a copy of our FFL.
  • We will notify you when your firearm arrives. Then you simply make an appointment to come to GUNTRY Maryland in Owings Mills and complete an ATF Form 4473.
  • We will contact the FBI NICS to finalize the transfer.

Handgun:
Transferring a handgun requires all of the steps listed for a long gun, plus …
  1. Go to the Maryland State Police (MSP) website, log into the “MSP Portal,” and start a 77R.
  2. After you have made the purchase, fill out the form below and submit.
  • We will contact your seller and send them a copy of our FFL.
  • We will notify you when your firearm arrives. Then you simply make an appointment to come to GUNTRY Maryland in Owings Mills and complete an ATF Form 4473.
  • We will contact the FBI NICS to finalize the transfer.

Notes:
  1. Police Officers and Retired Veterans do not need a State Issued Handgun Qualification License (HQL).
  2. ALL customers purchasing a handgun are REQUIRED to complete the form 77R!
  3. The fees for transferring a handgun have an additional $10 application fee, required by MSP. The fee for this is $50. 
    GUNTRY VIP Members, Law Enforcement, Active Military/Veterans, Fire and First Responders automatically receive a $10 discount.

Everything you need to know

  • The fee for transferring a firearm is $50.  
    GUNTRY Standard Membership holders pay $45.
    GUNTRY VIP Members, Law Enforcement, Active Military/Veterans, Fire and First Responders automatically receive a $10 discount.
  • The fee for transferring a handgun includes an additional $10 application fee, as required by Maryland State Police. GUNTRY Standard Membership holders and GUNTRY Law Enforcement/Military/Fire Membership will also be required to pay the additional $10 application fee.
  • Any firearms returned to the seller are subject to shipping fees, as well as the GUNTRY transfer fee.
  • Law enforcement and retired veterans do not need a state-issued Handgun Qualification License (HQL).
